Illegal Structures Used for Bovine Smuggling Demolished in Nagrota; 34 Animals Rescued in Operation Kamdhenu

Diplomat Correspondent

Jammu,(DD)In a major crackdown under Operation Kamdhenu, Jammu Police, in coordination with the Jammu Development Authority (JDA), demolished illegal structures in Khanpura, Nagrota that were allegedly being used for the illegal storage and transportation of bovines. The action followed the successful interception of two separate smuggling attempts, during which 34 bovine animals were rescued.

The smuggling attempts were foiled during routine naka checking on the National Highway in the Nagrota area. A truck bearing registration number JK21D/0182, used to transport the animals, was seized on the spot.

Following the operation, two FIRs — No. 141/2025 and No. 145/2025 — were registered at Police Station Nagrota under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (PCA Act).

The accused have been identified as:

Babur Chaudhary, son of Mohd Hussain, resident of Maraliyan, Miran Sahib, Jammu

Zakir Hussain, son of Ahmad Ali, resident of Khanpur, Nagrota

Bashir Ahmed Kichloo, son of Haji Abraham, resident of Khanpur, Nagrota

During the investigation, police discovered that the accused had constructed illegal permanent sheds on land belonging to the Jammu Development Authority. These unauthorised structures served as makeshift transit hubs for cattle smuggling.

Acting swiftly, a joint team of Jammu Police and JDA officials launched a demolition drive and razed the illegal constructions to the ground.

The operation underscores the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s firm commitment to curbing bovine smuggling, protecting public land from encroachment, and enforcing legal accountability.

Authorities have reiterated their zero-tolerance approach towards such activities and assured continued efforts to dismantle organised smuggling networks across the Union Territory.(DD)
