Srinagar, (DD)Anjuman-e-Imamia Jammu today led an impressive and deeply spiritual procession on the 10th day of Muharram (Youm-e-Ashura) to commemorate the supreme sacrifice of Imam Hussain (A.S.) and his 72 valiant companions at Karbala.

The solemn procession began from Peer Mitha and followed the traditional route, culminating at the Karbala Complex, Wazarat Road. Thousands of mourners, including devotees from across Jammu and other regions, participated with great devotion to pay homage to the martyrs of Karbala.

A brief Majlis-e-Aza was delivered by Maulana Ali Asgar Haidery from Mumbai, highlighting the spiritual and historical significance of Ashura. The programme concluded with the Sham-e-Ghariban Majlis at Karbala Complex, also led by Maulana Haidery.

Meanwhile, a parallel procession was also taken out from New Plots under the banner of Anjuman-e-Haidery New Plot, led by Abdul Sameer Qureshi. This merged with the main procession at Imam Bargah Sofi Shah, Peer Mitha. A symbolic Shabih-e-Zuljinah was also taken out, drawing participation not only from the Shia community but also from devotees of other faiths, all seeking blessings and expressing solidarity.

Syed Amanat Shah, President of Anjuman-e-Imamia Jammu, while addressing the media, stated:

“On this sacred day, Imam Hussain (A.S.) and his 72 companions laid down their lives for the preservation of Islam and stood firmly against the tyranny of Yazid, the then caliph. Their sacrifice is an eternal lesson in resistance against oppression.”

Prof. Sujat Khan, General Secretary of Anjuman, added:

“We must never forget the cause for which Imam Hussain (A.S.) sacrificed his family. The day of Ashura sends a universal message—to uphold justice, support the oppressed, and speak against tyranny.”

Sohail Kazmi, Member of the Wakf Board and senior journalist, also addressed the media, emphasising:

“It is our moral duty to spread the timeless message of Imam Hussain (A.S.) across communities.”

All Muharram proceedings over the 10 days were meticulously conducted under the supervision of Syed Ayaz Hussain Naqvi.
