Tourism in Kashmir Rebounds After Pahalgam Incident: Union Minister Gajendra Singh

Centre and UT Government Collaborating to Restore Traveller Confidence

Srinagar, (DD): Tourism in Kashmir is witnessing a positive revival following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, according to Union Minister for Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. He attributed this recovery to the joint efforts of the Jammu and Kashmir administration and the Central Government in restoring confidence among travellers and tourism stakeholders.

Speaking at the Tourism Conclave in Srinagar, the Minister said tourism had experienced a temporary slowdown after the incident, but signs of recovery are now visible. “The way the UT administration responded—with support from central government delegations and ministerial visits—has helped rebuild trust. This coordinated approach is key to bringing Kashmir’s tourism sector back to its earlier pace,” he said.

Shekhawat also recalled his visit to Kashmir in June, during which he conveyed a clear message that the region is safe and that isolated incidents should not deter travellers. “Kashmir’s tourism has seen consistent growth over the past three years. We must continue to move forward with renewed commitment,” he added.

He explained that the conclave was convened with two major goals: to allow tourism secretaries from across the country to witness the ground reality and promote Kashmir’s safety in their respective states, and to contribute towards the Prime Minister’s vision of developing 50 iconic destinations across India that meet global standards.

The Minister emphasised the importance of innovation and collaboration in tourism planning. “This conclave is a platform for exchanging ideas and best practices. We must rethink our strategies to improve infrastructure, services, and hospitality standards not just in Kashmir, but across the country,” he said(DD)
