Srinagar, (DD):After weeks of sweltering heat, Jammu and Kashmir received a welcome spell of rainfall on Tuesday night and today morning bringing much-needed respite to residents as rains drenched several parts of Kashmir.
Fresh spells of rain and cooler temperatures are expected to continue across the Union Territory over the next 48 hours, as a Western Disturbance and active monsoon winds influence regional weather conditions.
Independent weather forecaster Faizan Arif of Kashmir Weather said, “A spell of cooler weather, along with rain, is expected across many parts of J&K in the next 48 hours. The active monsoon winds and a Western Disturbance are the main triggers.”
He added that some areas may witness intense showers and even cloudbursts. Gusty winds and isolated hailstorms are also likely during this period.
The forecast comes as a relief to residents who have been battling unusually high temperatures in recent weeks. Srinagar recently recorded a maximum temperature of 37°C, breaking a 72-year-old record.
Officials and locals are advised to remain cautious, especially in flood-prone and hilly areas where sudden weather changes could pose risks(DD)
