Parents in Kishtwar Oppose Early School Timings Amid Rain, Flooded Roads

Kishtwar, (DD)Parents across Kishtwar district have raised serious concerns over the early school timings amid ongoing rainfall, waterlogged roads, and increased risks to student safety.

As per the current schedule implemented across several districts in Jammu and Kashmir, schools are operating from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM, even in areas experiencing adverse weather conditions.

With heavy rains drenching the region over the past 24 hours, many roads—especially in low-lying and rural areas—have been inundated, making early morning travel difficult and hazardous for students.

“How can children be expected to leave for school so early when the roads are flooded and it’s still drizzling?” questioned Mushtaq Ahmed, a parent from Kishtwar town. “The administration must reconsider the timing in view of the current weather and unsafe conditions.”

Parents have urged the district administration and the School Education Department to revise the schedule temporarily until the weather improves. Many have proposed a delayed start, such as 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, to ease the pressure on families and ensure safer commuting conditions.

With the weather department forecasting more rain over the next 48 hours, residents fear further deterioration of road conditions and have called for swift government intervention(DD)
