No Flood Threat, Says Weather Expert; Calls Rainfall “Much Needed”

Srinagar, (DD): A low-pressure system that was initially expected to pass south of Jammu and Kashmir has now shifted more directly over the region, increasing the likelihood of moderate to heavy rainfall in several districts, according to an afternoon update from weather expert Faizan Arif.
The shift in the system, he noted, was a plausible scenario due to potential lag in weather model outputs. As a result, rain-bearing clouds are now expected to concentrate over Rajouri and Poonch, with significant chances of rainfall also in Central Kashmir, Kupwara, Baramulla, and Bandipora.
Despite the increased rainfall activity, Arif emphasized that there is no risk of flooding in Kashmir, citing already low water levels in rivers and streams.
“This was a much-needed spell,” he added, suggesting that the rainfall will help replenish the water table and benefit agricultural activities without posing any immediate danger(DD)
