Srinagar,(DD)The Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2025 has been temporarily suspended for a day from both the Pahalgam and Baltal base camps due to continuous heavy rainfall over the past two days, officials said on Thursday. The inclement weather has caused damage to the tracks leading to the Holy Cave, necessitating immediate repair and maintenance.

The Border Roads Organization (BRO) has deployed additional personnel and machinery along both routes to expedite the restoration work, aiming to make the tracks safe for resumption of the pilgrimage by Friday.

“Due to the continuous rains over the last couple of days, urgent repair and maintenance works are required to be carried out on the tracks. Therefore, it has been decided that no movement shall be allowed towards the Holy Cave from the two base camps today,” said Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri.

However, officials have confirmed that pilgrims who spent the night at the Panjtarni camp are being allowed to return towards Baltal under the guidance and support of BRO teams and Mountain Rescue personnel, ensuring their safety during the descent.

The yatra is expected to resume on July 18, depending on the weather conditions throughout the day.

As of now, over 2.47 lakh pilgrims have successfully performed darshan at the revered Holy Cave Shrine since the commencement of the 2025 Yatra, reaffirming the devotion and determination of the yatris amidst challenging weather.(DD)
