Diplomat Correspondent

Jammu, (DD)Amid predictions of heavy rainfall over the next 72 hours, district administrations in parts of Jammu division have implemented precautionary measures to safeguard the public. Schools in Rajouri and Reasi have been ordered closed, while Samba authorities have issued a comprehensive safety advisory for residents.

Flood-like Conditions in Rajouri

Continuous downpours in Rajouri have caused the Dharhali and Saktoh rivers to swell, creating flood-like conditions in several low-lying areas. To ensure student safety, the District Magistrate announced the closure of all government and private schools in the district for the day.

“In view of adverse weather conditions, all Government and Private Schools in Rajouri District will remain closed today,” the District Magistrate said in a public post on X.

Reasi Also Orders School Closure

In neighbouring Reasi, the Deputy Commissioner also directed the closure of all educational institutions on July 22 as a preventive step.

A circular issued by the Chief Education Officer stated:

“All the Government and Private Schools of District Reasi shall remain closed on 22-07-2025 as a precautionary measure.”

Samba DC Issues Rain Advisory

In Samba district, the Deputy Commissioner released a public safety advisory on Tuesday, cautioning residents about potential landslides and waterlogging due to continued rainfall.

The advisory urged the public to avoid travel through landslide-prone areas and strictly prohibited the crossing of nallahs, streams, or rivers in spate. It also instructed school administrations to assess infrastructure safety and suspend classes if any building is found unsafe.

“For students who must cross streams or water bodies to reach school, classes shall remain suspended until the weather improves,” the advisory read.

Residents requiring emergency assistance have been advised to contact the District Control Room at 01923-241004.

Public Urged to Remain Indoors

Authorities across all affected districts have appealed to the public to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary and to strictly adhere to safety advisories to prevent any mishaps(DD)
