Jammu, (DD)Traffic Police City Jammu has issued a Public Notice restricting the movement of E-Rickshaws, E-Autos, and E-Carts to notified routes only, strictly barring their operation on National and State Highways within District Jammu.
The order is based on a directive issued by the Deputy Commissioner Jammu/Chairman RTA in September 2022, identifying 85 designated local routes, ranging between 2.5 km and 5 km, to facilitate last-mile connectivity. Simultaneously, 15 key highway stretches have been declared prohibited zones for such vehicles.
Speaking on the development, SSP Traffic City Jammu Farooq Qaiser said,
“The move is aimed at e2nsuring road safety and regulating the movement of slow-speed electric vehicles. These routes were carefully selected to balance public convenience with traffic discipline. Strict enforcement will follow.”
He added that the directive follows extensive consultations with transporters’ unions, the Deputy Commissioner, and the Regional Transport Officer (RTO). To raise awareness, large signboards highlighting the restrictions have been installed at prominent locations across Jammu by the Regional Transport Authority.
The Traffic Police has warned of strict action against violators, with the notice widely circulated via print, electronic media, and on official social media platforms of Traffic Police City Jammu(DD)
