CM Omar Abdullah Hopes for Statehood Restoration During Monsoon Session

Says it’s a positive development if Pahalgam attack suspect killed; seeks accountability for security lapses

Jammu,(DD)Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said he is hopeful that the ongoing Monsoon session of Parliament will bring concrete steps toward the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood.

Speaking to reporters in Jammu, Omar said his party has adopted a “wait and watch” approach for now. “We are expecting something to come out of this session. If there is no forward movement on the issue of statehood, we will decide our next course of action once the session concludes,” he said.

On the encounter involving terrorists linked to the recent Pahalgam attack, the Chief Minister welcomed the news reports suggesting that one of the attackers may have been neutralized. “If anyone involved in that attack has been killed today, it’s certainly a positive development,” he stated, adding that security agencies, including the police and Army, had been pursuing the suspects since the incident.

Omar also stressed the need for accountability in light of the recent security breaches. “While discussions on Operation Sindoor in Parliament are welcome, the Pahalgam attack too deserves serious debate,” he said. “Even the Lieutenant Governor has admitted to security and intelligence failures. The public has a right to know who is being held responsible.”

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister visited the residence of Parvez Ahmad, a Gujjar youth who lost his life in crossfire during a police operation against suspected drug peddlers. Omar was accompanied by his Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani and Minister Javid Rana.

He reiterated his call for a time-bound and impartial investigation into the incident, emphasizing that justice must be delivered swiftly(DD)
