Srinagar,(DD): In a noteworthy political comeback, former Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Sajad Mufti has resumed political activity in South Kashmir, weeks after retiring from government service. However, he clarified that he has no plans to affiliate with any political party at this stage.

Speaking to media, Mufti said, “I’ve resumed political activity and started reconnecting with people. As of now, I have no intention of joining any political party.”

Mufti initially entered politics in 2014 by joining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by his uncle, the late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. He was seen as a rising figure within the party, particularly in South Kashmir, after taking voluntary retirement from the IFS.

In 2020, he stepped away from active politics and returned to government service. He went on to serve as Chief Conservator of Forests and Chief Wildlife Warden in Ladakh, a post he held until his retirement in June 2025.

His re-entry into the political landscape—amid a shifting political climate in Jammu and Kashmir—has sparked speculation about his next steps, especially with elections on the horizon(DD)
