Srinagar,(DD)The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued a weather alert for Jammu and Kashmir, warning of intense rainfall, flash floods, and landslide risks in several parts of the Union Territory, particularly the Jammu Division, over the coming days.
According to the forecast, the region is expected to experience hot and humid conditions between August 2 and 3, with chances of brief rain or thundershowers at a few places. Some areas in the Jammu Division may receive moderate rainfall during this period.
However, the weather is likely to take a more severe turn between August 4 and 6, with the Met department predicting light to moderate rainfall and thundershowers at many places across J&K. There is a high probability of intense showers or heavy rain in districts such as Rajouri, Reasi, Udhampur, Doda, Jammu, and Kathua, especially during late-night and early morning hours.
The forecast for August 7 to 9 suggests continued hot and humid weather with the possibility of isolated brief showers, while August 10 and 11 are likely to bring fresh spells of rain and thundershowers at many locations.
Advisory Highlights:
The MET department has sounded a cautionary note for vulnerable areas in the Jammu region.
“There is a possibility of intense to heavy rain at a few places during August 4 to 6, which may trigger flash floods, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas,” the advisory states.
The department has also warned of the risk of landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones along hilly terrain and roads, urging travellers and residents to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary movement during adverse conditions.
Farmers Alerted
In light of the upcoming wet spell, farmers have been advised to resume or complete farm operations by August 3 to avoid damage to crops or agricultural infrastructure(DD)
