Jammu: DD, Kala Kendra Jammu today organized a programme titled “Meet the Artist” with eminent visual artist Neelam Mohile at the Writers’ Club, Kala Kendra.
The event witnessed the presence of a vibrant gathering of artists, writers, and intellectuals from the region.
Welcoming the guests, Dr. Javaid Rahi, Secretary Kala Kendra, stated that the primary objective of the programme was to provide young visual art students and budding artists an opportunity to interact with a distinguished artist of national and international repute.
He highlighted that Neelam Mohile is an alumnus of the prestigious Sir J.J. School of Applied Art, Mumbai, and has also received professional training in Photography and Computer Graphics from the United States of America.
During the interaction, Neelam Mohile shared her vast experiences in the field of art and photography.
She informed the audience that she had photographed three Kumbh Melas and travelled extensively across India to document major religious and cultural congregations.
While speaking about emerging trends, she acknowledged the growing influence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the visual arts but emphasized that the core of creativity still belongs to imaginative and innovative minds. She encouraged artists to travel, explore nature, and document heritage through their creative lenses/ arts. She particularly stressed the importance of creating archival records of people, places, buildings, and other cultural landmarks.
The event also featured interactions and remarks from senior members of the artistic community.
Those who spoke included Rakesh Sharma, Head of the Fine Arts Department, Institute of Music and Fine Arts , University of Jammu, and faculty members Jaswant Singh, Rohit Verma, Ankush Kesar, Dr. Rachita Datta, and Dr. Palak Gandotra.
From the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Rita Khadyal (Editor, Dogri), Sanjeev Gupta (Special Officer for Cultural Activities), and Anil Tickoo (Cultural Officer) also took part in the interaction programme.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks and an open-floor discussion where young artists had the chance to engage with Neelam Mohile, gaining insights into contemporary practices and global trends in the field of visual art.DD
