Srinagar, (DD): The Meteorological Department on Sunday predicted a fresh spell of light to moderate rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir over the next few days, warning of heavy showers and thunderstorms in several areas.
Director of the Meteorological Centre Srinagar, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, said that between August 17 and August 19, Jammu division districts including Jammu, Reasi, Udhampur, Rajouri, Poonch, Samba, and Kathua will likely experience light to moderate rain with thunderstorms, while some areas may see intense downpours.
He added that Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, and parts of the Kashmir division are also expected to witness moderate to heavy rainfall, accompanied by gusty winds and brief intense showers.
From August 20 to 22, the weather is expected to turn hot and humid, with only brief thundershowers at isolated places. However, another wet spell is forecast from August 23 to 25, bringing widespread light to moderate rain and thunderstorms, with a chance of heavy rain in some locations.
Issuing a safety advisory, Dr. Mukhtar cautioned that the expected downpours could trigger cloudbursts, flash floods, landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones in vulnerable areas. He urged the public to stay away from water bodies and unstable structures, while advising travelers, tourists, and transporters to plan their journeys with caution(DD)
