Srinagar, (DD): Cabinet Minister Javaid Dar on Friday said that the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly session is likely to be convened in the first or second week of September.
Dar’s statement came shortly after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chaired a cabinet meeting in Srinagar to review the situation arising out of recent natural calamities. The meeting discussed the devastation caused by the cloudbursts in Kishtwar and Kathua districts.
At least 65 people have lost their lives in Kishtwar, while more than 50 remain missing. In Kathua, seven people — including five children — were killed in the tragedy. The cabinet reviewed ongoing rescue and relief operations and deliberated on measures for immediate rehabilitation of affected families.
Dar said the upcoming Assembly session will provide an opportunity to take up these pressing issues, along with other matters of governance and public concern(DD)
