50 students of IIIM rescued from flooded hostel buildings in motor boats by SDRF in Jammu

KATHUA/JAMMU: DD, Jammu-Pathankot has been closed for vehicular traffic on Sunday afternoon following damage to one of the bridges at Sahar Khad area near Langate Morh in Kathua District.
Out of two bridges, as per the report, one bridge damaged and it was closed immediately following heavy rainfall that triggered strong water current in the Sahar Khad.
The flash flood damaged one of the pillars of the bridge, leading to its closure for traffic, and subsequently, the second bridge was also closed for the movement of traffic as a precautionary measure.
“The Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, also visited the site, and reviewed the ground situation, and hence, the traffic movement on the highway was closed,” the reports claim.
Meanwhile, large numbers of vehicles have been stranded on both the sides of the Jammu-Pathankot though some vehicles have adopted alternative routes to reach their respective destinations.
The authorities are assessing the damages, and accordingly, a decision would be taken.
On the other hand, the rain water gushed into the homes at various low lying areas across Jammu, and 50 students of CSIR-IIIM were trapped inside their hostel buildings that was completely flooded, near Bakshi Nagar close to Canal Road.
The SDRF’s rescue teams with their motorboats rushed there, and they evacuated the trapped students to the safer locations, the reports claim.
Pertinently, canal water had also overflown that had led to flooding at Canal Road, and surrounding residential areas.DD
