Regional Office Chandigarh undertakes massive Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) drive across northern states

Chandigarh, DD, Regional Office, UIDAI Chandigarh, has undertaken a massive Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) drive across schools in the northern region, covering the states of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, and Ladakh.

The Mandatory Biometric Update is especially crucial for children in the 0–5 and 15–17 year age groups. By updating their biometrics at the right time, Aadhaar records remain accurate, thereby reducing errors related to name, date of birth, or biometric mismatches.

This directly benefits students as Aadhaar plays an important role in major competitive examinations such as JEE, NEET, UPSC, and other entrance tests, where accurate Aadhaar verification is often required for registration and examination processes.

An updated Aadhaar also ensures smooth access to scholarships, educational benefits, and government welfare schemes linked to Aadhaar. Beyond education, it prepares students with a future-ready identity that supports higher studies, admissions, and essential services like passport issuance with ease.

The drive has been rolled out on a large scale with camps being actively deployed across hundreds of schools, ensuring that children from diverse backgrounds, both urban and rural, are provided timely biometric updates without disruption to their academic routine.

This large-scale exercise is being carried out in mission mode, with close coordination with Department of IT, UT of Ladakh, Ladakh e Governance agency, and Department of Education ensuring smooth execution even in remote and hilly terrains.

Speaking on the milestone, the Regional Office Chandigarh emphasized that Aadhaar is not just an identity document but a key enabler of opportunities. Timely updates, particularly biometric ones for children, safeguard students from hurdles in their academic journey and beyond.DD
