MHA Cancels FCRA Registration of Students Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh

Diplomat Correspondent

Leh: DD, The Ministry of Home Affairs has cancelled the FCRA registration of Students Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh (SECMOL) citing multiple violations of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).

According to the order issued by MHA, the association was found involved in irregular deposits, including Rs 3.35 lakh shown as foreign donation but not reflected in its FCRA account, and Rs 54,600 local funds wrongly deposited in the FCRA account. Further, funds were reportedly received from foreign donors for activities linked to sovereignty issues, which the Ministry said was against national interest.

The MHA also pointed out that SECMOL refunded Rs 19,600 to a donor in violation of FCRA provisions and failed to properly account for Rs 79,200 deducted from staff salaries. The Ministry concluded that these repeated violations amounted to breach of conditions under the Act.

Consequently, the competent authority ordered immediate cancellation of the association’s registration, thereby prohibiting it from receiving or utilizing foreign contributions henceforth. (KNC)
