Jammu : DD, The Indian Army has always upheld its timeless ethos and cherished traditions of maintaining a close connect with its veterans, honouring their sacrifices, and reaffirming the spirit of camaraderie that binds the serving and retired fraternity alike. In keeping with this noble commitment, Major General Mukesh Bhanwala, General Officer Commanding, Tiger Division, visited Honorary Captain Bana Singh (Retd), Param Vir Chakra, at his residence in RS Pura, Jammu, to pay tributes to the living legend. The GOC was accompanied by senior officers of the Tiger Division.
During the interaction, General Officer Commanding lauded the indelible contribution of Honorary Captain Bana Singh, whose unmatched courage and leadership during Operation Rajiv in 1987 led to the capture of the strategically vital Quaid Post in Siachen. This daring action not only earned him the nation’s highest wartime gallantry award, the Param Vir Chakra, but also etched his name forever in the annals of Indian military history. The post was subsequently renamed “Bana Top” in his honour, standing as an enduring testament to the gallant and indomitable spirit of the Indian soldier.
The GOC expressed his deepest appreciation for the invaluable insights shared by the war hero and extended invitation for the upcoming Mega Ex Servicemen Rally scheduled on 14 Oct 25 at Jammu.
The visit exemplifies the Indian Army’s enduring ethos of “Our Veterans: Our Pride”, reaffirming its profound respect, gratitude, and commitment towards its most distinguished heroes from whom the present generation gathers inspiration and, whose valour continues to illuminate the path for future generations.DD
