Baramulla: DD, Additional Director General of Border Security Force (BSF) on Sunday said that, additional troops have been deployed and surveillance intensified to prevent any cross-border movement, as infiltration activity typically increases before heavy snowfall blocks routes.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Wular 2.0 Marathon held in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, ADG BSF, Satish S. Khandare said, intelligence reports indicate that several terrorists are stationed at launch pads across the border, waiting to cross into the Valley.

“Traditionally, infiltration attempts rise before winter sets in. Keeping this in view, our troops have been put on high alert, and surveillance has been intensified all along the LoC,” he said.

He said though it was difficult to specify numbers, the security forces have credible inputs about renewed activity across the border.

“The threat of infiltration from the neighbouring country is persistent, but our forces, including the Army and BSF, are fully alert and prepared to deal with any situation,” he added.

The BSF officer said the force continues to discharge its duties efficiently and remains committed to safeguarding the nation’s borders.

Meanwhile, hundreds of youth and women participated in the Wular 2.0 Marathon, which featured 5 km, 10 km, and 21 km race categories.

“This marathon, now in its second edition, is part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with people living near the LoC and border areas,” ADG said. (KNC)
