Srinagar: DD, PDP MLA Waheed ur Rehman Para on Tuesday accused the administration of perpetuating regional imbalance in the issuance of social category certificates across Jammu and Kashmir, citing official data presented in the Legislative Assembly.
Para said the figures released by the Revenue Department reveal a “deep regional divide,” showing Jammu far ahead of Kashmir in the distribution of SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and ALC certificates over the past two years.
In a post on X, Para as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, wrote, “Data shared by the Revenue Department reveals a sharp regional divide in certificate issuance over the last two years,” highlighting what he termed as a “serious breach of fairness, equality, and administrative impartiality.”
According to the data, Jammu dominates in most categories — SC (99.2%), ST (87.2%), OBC (56.6%), EWS (88.5%), and ALC (85.2%) — while Kashmir holds a higher share only in the RBA category (67.1%).
Para reiterated that the figures underline the urgent need to rationalize the reservation policy in proportion to population, ensuring equity and restoring public trust in the welfare system.
He said such disparities “undermine the spirit of justice” and called for immediate corrective measures by the government. (KNC)
