Srinagar: DD, The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Tuesday dismissed claims that residents near Dal, Nigeen, Khushalsar, and Gilsar lakes face undue restrictions in constructing homes or accessing basic facilities.

In a written reply to a question by MLA Tanvir Sadiq as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, , the Housing and Urban Development Department clarified that all construction permissions in these lake areas are regulated under the Srinagar Master Plan 2035 and directions issued by the High Court in W.P. No. 159/2002 (Syed Tahir Iqbal Geelani vs State).

“No, sir,” the department stated when asked whether residents were unable to build houses despite family growth.

The reply further emphasized that the government recognizes the Right to Life under Article 21 of the Constitution of India and global principles outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, along with relevant Supreme Court rulings.

Regarding eco-friendly construction, the department added that approvals will be granted strictly in accordance with the Master Plan and court directives, ensuring that development around the lake areas remains planned, sustainable, and legally compliant. —(KNC)
