RAMBAN, DD, National Conference leader and MLA Banihal Sajjad Shaheen today inaugurated the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Mangit, a remote village in the Banihal constituency, reaffirming the Government’s resolve to strengthen health infrastructure in rural and far-flung pockets of the Banihal–Gool region.
He was accompanied by CMO Ramban Dr. Kamal Zaroo, BMO Banihal Dr. Shabir Ahmed Dar, Assistant Director Planning Farooq Ahmed Rahi, officers from the R&B Department, and senior party colleagues including Mohd Ashraf Naik, Bashir Ahmed Naik, Abdul Rashid Malik, Abdul Jabbar Mir, among others.
Addressing the gathering, Shaheen said that improving healthcare accessibility in rural areas remains the foremost priority of the Government, ensuring that people are not compelled to travel long distances or depend on tertiary hospitals for basic medical services.
He said that all hospitals in the Banihal–Gool constituency are being upgraded, with funds worth crores already earmarked for strengthening infrastructure and services.
He further announced that new NTPHCs are being proposed at Mahoo, Chamalwas, Parihinder (Neel), and Sumar, which will substantially improve healthcare outreach in remote and hilly terrains.
Speaking on power development, Shaheen highlighted that power infrastructure in the constituency is being comprehensively strengthened.
Major grid stations at Banihal, Khari, and Ramsoo are undergoing augmentation, while new receiving stations have been proposed at Kawna (Khari), Chamalwas, and Asshar to ensure better electricity supply and stability. He added that the eight Hydro Power Projects sanctioned for the constituency will bring long-term transformation to the overall power scenario of Ramban district.
The MLA also informed that Mahoo and Mangit are being taken up as Solar Villages, tapping renewable energy to ensure sustainable and uninterrupted power availability for the local population.
He said the constituency continues to witness rapid development across various sectors, including road connectivity, educational infrastructure, tourism, and other ongoing public development works.
Shaheen announced that Tatapani is being developed into a well-equipped Wellness and Health Adventure Tourism destination, for which ₹275 lakh has already been allocated. This, he said, will give a major boost to the tourism sector and open new livelihood avenues for local communities.
To strengthen eco-tourism and fisheries, he informed that a special Brown Trout species will soon be stocked in the Mahoo–Khari river, Zaban, and Thandichaan streams, enhancing trout culture and boosting local fishery-based livelihoods.
During the visit, the MLA also inspected Government High School Mangit, interacted with the students and staff, and announced a Digital Smart Board for the institution. He also sanctioned ₹2 lakh from the CDF for upgrading the school ground to support sports and extracurricular activities.
Later in the evening, Shaheen visited Mahoo and Trigam villages, where he held late-night interactions with local residents to review issues and ongoing developmental needs.
Reiterating his commitment, the MLA said that Banihal–Gool is firmly moving on a path of holistic and inclusive development, driven by focused interventions in health, power, education, tourism, and infrastructure aimed at ensuring sustainable progress and a better quality of life for all residents.
