Communalizing education undermines institutional credibility: CPI (M) Regional Committee, Jammu

Jammu: DD, Hari Singh, Regional Secretary CPI (M) Jammu said that the controversy over admissions at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Medical College is unnecessary and damaging, as it shifts attention from the basic principle that governs all professional institutions i.e.merit.
In a statement it is said that the debate sparked over the religious composition of selected candidates diverts focus from the country’s established educational and legal framework.
The admission to medical colleges, must be based on a transparent national entrance process like NEET and regulated by statutory bodies such as BOPEE.
“Any attempt to bring communal considerations into the selection system erodes public trust and undermines the credibility of institutions,” the admission reads.
The Supreme Court has consistently held that admissions must be made solely on the basis of merit. Institutions cannot operate on religious or community-based preferences beyond constitutional provisions for reservation.
He said educational spaces must remain inclusive, fair and merit driven. Those attempting to inject communal narratives into academic processes must be firmly opposed, as such actions weaken both the system and the society it serves.DD
