LG Ladakh inaugurated 3-day exhibition at Kala Kendra

Jammu: Kavinder Gupta, Lieutenant Governor, Union Territory of Ladakh, today inaugurated a solo art exhibition by noted artist Milan Sharma at the Master Sansar Chand Gallery, Kala Kendra, Jammu.
Brij Mohan Sharma, IFS, Principal Secretary, Department of Culture, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour, while Lalit Gupta, noted Art Historian and Columnist, attended as the Special Guest. Javaid Rahi, Secretary, Kala Kendra, Jammu; K K Sidha, Director, Archives, Archaeology and Museums; and the exhibiting artist Milan Sharma were also present on the dais during the inaugural programme. The exhibition, titled “Memory Imprints,” has been organised by Kala Kendra, Jammu.

In his welcome address, Dr Javaid Rahi stated that the primary objective of the exhibition is to connect the younger generation with the work of reputed artist Milan Sharma, who has spent more than two decades in dedicated art practice. He added that such exhibitions play a vital role in nurturing aesthetic sensibilities and cultural continuity.

In his inaugural address, Kavinder Gupta observed that the art history of the Jammu region is very rich and deeply rooted in centuries-old traditions. He remarked that Milan Sharma’s exhibition is a continuation of this age-old heritage and contributes to exploring new dimensions of cultural expression. He also appreciated the artist for her outstanding and evocative works on display.He also took the rounfd of the gallery and interacted with artists.

Addressing the gathering, Brij Mohan Sharma stated that Kala Kendra is being developed as a vibrant centre of cultural activities.

He informed that all galleries of the Kendra are now fully air-conditioned and that renovation and upgradation works are in full swing.

He described Milan Sharma’s work as distinct and abstract, deserving wider appreciation and critical engagement.

Dr Lalit Gupta, in his address, noted that Milan Sharma’s work stands apart from the mainstream, as she thoughtfully follows and interprets changing trends in contemporary visual art in an extraordinary manner.

Speaking on the occasion, artist Milan Sharma stated that she has exhibited fifteen major works in the exhibition, reflecting her personal life journey and creative evolution. She added that these works have emerged from her continuous engagement with painting over the past two decades.

On the occasion, a specially designed Dogra cap by Meenakshi Suri, designer, was presented to the Lieutenant Governor and Padma Shri awardee Shri S. P. Verma.

The exhibition will remain open to the public till 21st December 2025, from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, at Master Sansar Chand Gallery, Kala Kendra, Jammu.DD
