Jammu: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday ordered the reopening of more tourist spots in both divisions of Jammu and Kashmir that were temporarily closed as a precaution.
The LG ordered the immediate reopening of 11 tourist spots in the Kashmir Division, namely Yousmarg and Doodhpathri in Budgam; Dandipora Park in Kokernag, Anantnag; Peer Ki Gali, Dubjan, and Padpawan in Shopian; Astanpora and Tulip Garden in Srinagar; Thajwas Glacier and Hung Park in Ganderbal; and Wullar/Watlab in Baramulla.
Similarly, three tourist spots in the Jammu Division — Devi Pindi in Reasi, Mahu Mangat in Ramban, and Mughal Maidan in Kishtwar — will also be reopened immediately.
Three sites in the Kashmir Division — Gurez and Athwatoo in Bandipora, and Bangus in Kupwara — and one site in the Jammu Division — Ramkund in Ramban — will be reopened once the snow is cleared.
In April 2025, the administration closed around 50 tourist destinations following a terror attack at Baisaran in Pahalgam in which 26 tourists were killed. Dozens of these tourist destinations were reopened later, but many remained closed.
During the ongoing Assembly session in Jammu, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah assured that he would take up the issue of closed tourist spots with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
He was responding to a supplementary question raised by J&K Pradesh Congress Committee MLA Nizamudin Bhat.DD
