J&K state election commission begins revision of panchayat electoral rolls

Srinagar, (TDD): The J&K State Election Commission has announced the annual revision of Panchayat Electoral Rolls, set with a qualifying date of January 1, 2025.

This revision, in line with Section 38 of the J&K Panchayati Raj Act, 1989, aims to ensure updated and accurate voter information for the upcoming electoral period.

“As per the commission’s schedule, six special camps will be held across polling stations in Jammu and Kashmir to facilitate the revision process. These camps are scheduled for November 16, 17, 23, 24, 30, and December 1, 2024, allowing eligible residents to update or correct their information,” reads a letter a copy of which lies with the Diplomat.

It reads as Panchayat Election Booth Officers (PEBOs) will be present at each location to assist residents, with assembly Booth Level Officers (BLOs) supporting the process.

“To maintain a smooth workflow, the commission has requested that relevant district officers and Block Development Officers (BDOs) be deployed for effective oversight during these special camps. BDOs will collect data on claims and objections submitted at each camp, with these details subsequently sent to the District Panchayat Election Officer and then to the State Election Commission for review,” it reads.

Pertainly, the revision process aligns with the J&K Panchayati Raj Act and seeks to maintain a comprehensive, accurate electoral roll ahead of the new year.—(TDD)
