Udhampur ,TDD,The Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh Directorate of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) has taken a significant step towards fostering aviation aspirations among the youth of the region. The newly established 1 J&K Air Squadron NCC in Udhampur marks a historic moment, becoming the first Air Squadron in the entire directorate. The enrollment of new cadets is now underway, inviting young enthusiasts to join the Air Wing and embark on a journey of exploration and achievement.
The inauguration of this Air Squadron was a highlight of the raising ceremony for four new NCC units held on October 25, 2024. Lieutenant General M V Suchindra Kumar, the Army Commander of the Northern Command, presided over the ceremony, which also saw the establishment of units in Kupwara and Kargil.
The NCC, a vital institution in India’s youth development landscape, was founded in 1948 under the National Cadet Corps Act. Its roots can be traced back to the University Corps, formed in 1917 to address military manpower shortages.TDD
