Srinagar, Sep 11: To welcome the party chief after five years, the Awami Itehad Party (AIP) chief Er Sheikh Abdur Rashid, the party is planning a grand reception for the AIP chief in Srinagar on September 3.

Delhi’s Patiala court granted bail to Er Rashid yesterday till October 2. The Court also allowed Er Rashid to run the election campaign. The Jailed Member Parliament from North Kashmir will walk home after five years.

“We will welcome our party chief right from the Srinagar International Airport on September 13. Jail formalities are being completed and we expect party chief to land in Srinagar on September 13 afternoon,” AIP’s chief spokesman Inamun Nabi confirmed, adding that the party is planning mega welcome rally in Srinagar on September 13

“We have suggested two venues for holding a welcome rally in Srinagar. We have sought proper permission as well. Hope we will be allowed to hold a rally to welcome our leader in Srinagar,” he said.

The North Kashmir Member Parliament will be “released on bail” after remaining in New Dehli’s Tihar jail for five years in connection with a terror funding case. The AIP is contesting on over 45 seats including the crucial seat of Ganderbal where Omar Abdullah is also in the fray.

Omar and Mehbooba Mufti have reacted to Er Rashid’s bail. While Omar claimed Er Rashid’s bail was to get votes and not to serve people, Mehbooba questioned how a jailed MP is allowed to run campaigning when family members of prisoners aren’t even allowed to meet their dear ones lodged in various jails.
