The Magic of Harudh: Kashmir’s Autumn Awakens, attracts tourists in huge numbers

TDD Special Correspondent

Srinagar, (TDD):As the sun gently rises over the majestic mountains of Kashmir, the valley finds itself wrapped in a golden haze. The magic of Harudh, or autumn, has descended upon the land, transforming it into a painter’s canvas—bursting with colors that seem to echo the poetry of nature itself.

The once green landscape is now a sea of warm hues, as leaves in shades of amber, gold, and red fall softly from the trees, carpeting the ground in a rich tapestry.

For locals, this season carries deep cultural significance. Harudh symbolizes change, a transition from the warmth of summer to the cold embrace of winter. It marks a period of harvesting, where the fruits of months of labor in the fields are gathered and the pace of life begins to slow. But beyond its agricultural importance, Harudh brings with it an undeniable beauty that has begun to lure visitors from across the globe.

Tourists, who once sought the pristine snow of winter or the lush greens of summer, are now discovering the allure of Kashmir in autumn. The famous Dal Lake, its surface now mirrored by the amber and russet leaves, becomes a place of reflection—both literally and metaphorically. The traditional “Shikaras,” those wooden boats, glide through the calm waters, their passengers enchanted by the riot of colors reflected in the lake.

“It’s unlike anything I’ve seen before,” says Sarah, a traveler from London. “The fall colors are so vibrant, it feels like you’re walking through a dream. You can feel the crispness in the air, and every leaf that falls seems to have its own story.”

Local guide, Mohammad Irfan, shares that tourists are increasingly choosing autumn as the time to visit Kashmir. “The beauty of Harudh is indescribable,” he says, gesturing to the hillsides that are slowly turning from green to fiery orange. “It’s not just about the colors; it’s the peace, the silence that comes with the season. People come for the natural beauty, but they leave with a sense of tranquility in their hearts.”

As tourists explore the meadows, valleys, and orchards, the falling leaves seem to narrate a story of change. The golden aspen leaves dance in the wind, the crisp sound of crunching foliage beneath their feet a reminder of the fleeting beauty of nature. Whether wandering through the famous Mughal Gardens or trekking to hidden corners of the valley, visitors are left mesmerized by the tranquil landscapes that are so different from the bustle of their everyday lives.

“For me, autumn is a reminder that everything is temporary—beautiful, but fleeting,” says Samir, a visitor from Pune, as he watches the falling leaves flutter to the ground. “It’s a humbling experience, to witness how nature sheds what it no longer needs and prepares for the coming winter.”

The serene beauty of Kashmir in autumn has made it a perfect haven for those seeking solace, inspiration, and a deeper connection with nature. For some, it is a place to pause, reflect, and let go, just like the leaves that fall with grace.

As the valley welcomes the season of Harudh, it is clear that the autumn of Kashmir is not just transforming the landscape; it is also transforming the lives of those who visit. For tourists, it is an invitation to experience a different rhythm of life, one where time seems to slow down and the simple act of watching a leaf fall becomes an experience of profound beauty.
