Protesters Clash with Police Over Ropeway Project in Jammu and Kashmir’s Katra

Katra: TDD,Protests against a proposed Rs 250 crore ropeway project near the Vaishno Devi shrine continue on Monday, leading to clashes between protesters and police. The demonstrators, primarily shopkeepers, pony, and palanquin owners, fear the project will adversely impact their livelihoods.

The 72-hour strike, initiated on November 22, was extended by 24 hours on Sunday. The protesters, who staged a march and sit-in in Katra town, expressed concerns about the potential job losses due to the ropeway project, which is expected to be completed in two years.

Tensions escalated when a CRPF vehicle attempted to pass through the protest site. Some protesters turned violent, attacking the vehicle and injuring a police officer.


As Per officials Stone Pelting reported from Protest site. He added that during Protest Protestors become violet and started stone pelting on police in which one Police officer injured.

Authorities are currently engaged in talks to de-escalate the situation.TDD
