Srinagar, (TDD): In a decisive action against drug trafficking, Srinagar Police have apprehended 10 notorious drug peddlers and booked them under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act.
Police said these individuals, accused of operating an extensive narcotics network in the city, were detained after formal detention orders were issued by the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, based on comprehensive police dossiers.
The arrested individuals include Rizwan Bashir Dhobi (Sakidafar Safakadal), Parvaiz Ahmad Bhat (Takanwari Pora), Owais Hussain Mir (Tangbagh Nawpora), Nadeem Hussain Bhat, Sheikh Jibran Nisar (both from Batwara), Raqib Lateef Bhat alias Amir (Aloochibagh), Abdul Ahad Bhat (Banpora, Batamaloo), Moin Khan alias Moin (Tengpora Bypass), Sajad Ahmad Beigh alias Boya (Allochibagh), and Arshid Ahmad Mir (Baghi Jogi Lanker, Rainawari).
These individuals, lodged in various jails across Jammu and Kashmir, were identified as major contributors to the drug menace in Srinagar, targeting youth with their illegal narcotics network. Despite previous NDPS Act cases and court bail, they continued their activities unabated, prompting authorities to invoke the PIT-NDPS Act.
In addition, police have initiated proceedings to attach their properties under the provisions of the law. This operation underscores the J&K Police’s unwavering commitment to eradicating drug trafficking. Authorities have issued a stern warning to others involved in such activities, stating that the “long arm of the law” will bring all offenders to justice. (TDD)
