Stresses for protection of Constitutional Values

Srinagar, (TDD): In a strong appeal for national unity and inclusivity, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) President Farooq Abdullah expressed deep concern over the rising sense of insecurity among Muslims in India. Speaking to the media in Srinagar today, after his return from Umrah, the former Chief Minister urged the central government to ensure equal treatment for all communities, reflecting the core values embedded in the Indian Constitution.
“There is no doubt that Muslims are feeling unsafe. I urge the Government of India to address this issue promptly,” Abdullah said, stressing the importance of the Constitution’s guarantees against discrimination. “The Constitution ensures that religion should not divide us. If we allow that foundation to be destroyed, what will remain of India?” he added, alluding to recent controversies surrounding religious sites across the country.
Highlighting India’s diversity, Abdullah further asserted, “We must remember that 24 crore Muslims are a vital part of this nation, and no one should be allowed to marginalize them.” His comments come amid increasing concerns of rising religious tensions.
In addition to his comments on national unity, the NC leader reiterated his party’s unwavering commitment to the dignified return of Kashmiri Pandits to their homeland. “The return of KPs with dignity is not just a promise in our manifesto, but a solemn pledge. We will not allow it to remain confined to mere words. Every promise will be fulfilled,” he affirmed, sending a clear message of hope to the displaced community.
Meanwhile, Congress MP Imran Masood voiced his concerns over recent court rulings allowing surveys at religious sites, warning that such actions could sow seeds of unrest across the country. “The Places of Worship Act, 1991, is clear in its stance – it prohibits altering the status of religious sites. The Supreme Court must intervene to prevent anarchy and preserve communal harmony,” Masood urged.
In a further step to safeguard religious harmony, Congress leaders Alok Sharma and Priya Mishra have approached the Supreme Court with a petition to prevent courts from entertaining surveys at places of worship. They called for strict adherence to the Places of Worship Act to ensure peace and prevent the nation from descending into chaos.
