UDHAMPUR :TDD,The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Government College for Women Udhampur celebrated the Mahaparinirvan Diwas of Baba Saheb Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar as Social Harmony Day in the college campus here today.
The programme began with the welcome address by Dr. Ajay Kumar Sharma, Programme Officer, NSS Unit of GCW Udhampur, in which he welcomed the Principal of the college, Dr. Nalini Pathania and the special invitees – Safai Karmacharis who were honoured with bouquets.
Principal Dr. Nalini Pathania in her address highlighted the importance of observing Social Harmony Day to realize the ideas of unity in diversity.
Prof. Yash Paul HoD History while addressing the students said that Baba Sahib was a scholar of par excellence, a philosopher, a visionary, an emancipator and a true nationalist and his concept of social justice stands for Liberty, equality and fraternity of all human beings.
While speaking on occasion, Dr. Ravinder Kumar spoke on the contribution of Baba Saheb in the making of the Constitution of India. He spoke in detail on the term social democracy coined by Baba Saheb which is concerned with the ideas and principles that systematically shape the constitution, Governments and social life of indians.
Vipin, representative of the Safai Karamcharis expressed his gratitude to the NSS Unit of the college and the Principal and thanked for such a gesture of harmony.
The event was attended by 150 students and all faculty members of the college. The proceeding were conducted by Manayata Kotwal and Tanya Patyal NSS volunteers of semester 1st NSS volunteers Bhumi Salotra, Ritika Sharma, Khushi, Bharti Sharma and Shagun Sharma also spoke on the occasion.TDD
