Icy Embrace: Kashmir, ladakh plunge into deep freeze, Jammu stays mild

TDD Correspondent

Srinagar, TDD,As winter tightens its grip, temperatures across the Kashmir Valley, Ladakh, and Jammu regions tell a tale of extremes.

Zojila Pass recorded a bone-chilling -19.0°C, making it the coldest location in the region, while Shopian and Bandipora shivered at -4.5°C and -4.3°C, respectively. The iconic tourist destinations of Pahalgam and Gulmarg stood frozen at -4.3°C and -3.6°C, painting a breathtaking but harsh winter landscape.

In stark contrast, the Jammu region enjoyed relatively milder conditions, with Jammu city recording a low of 8.1°C. Ramban, unusually warm, stood at 9.4°C, offering a welcome respite from the chill. Meanwhile, the picturesque valleys of Bhaderwah and Kishtwar braved slightly lower temperatures at 0.6°C and 4.0°C.

Ladakh remained true to its reputation for extreme winters. Leh recorded a biting -9.6°C, encapsulating the harsh beauty of the cold desert. As winter progresses, these regions brace for colder nights ahead, with snow-covered landscapes becoming the norm.

Despite the cold, life continues with resilience in these regions, a testament to the indomitable spirit of their people. (TDD)
