Enhanced training, NSG presence show positive results in Chenab Valley

Kishtwar, (TDD): Security in Jammu and Kashmir’s Chenab Valley, which includes Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts, has significantly improved due to strategic measures by local security forces.

Key initiatives such as the establishment of a National Security Guard (NSG) camp and better training for the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) Special Operations Group (SOG) have been instrumental in reducing militant activities in the Valley.

Sources in the security grid said that the training of JKP SOG personnel has been upgraded with the help of army officers, preparing them to handle operations in the tough, mountainous terrain.

This enhanced training has helped the SOG carry out successful counter-terrorism operations. Additionally, the establishment of the NSG camp in the area has strengthened the security forces’ ability to respond to high-risk situations.

A major success was seen in Doda’s Bhelasha area, where the SOG neutralized a group of Pakistani militants during a coordinated operation. This quick response stopped the militants’ attack and resulted in their elimination. The operation was hailed as a significant victory for local security forces.

Security forces have also intensified surveillance in areas like Kashvan, Naidgam, and Kuntwara in Kishtwar, where terrorist movements have been disrupted. Continuous monitoring has forced many militants to retreat into forests, making it difficult for them to establish hideouts.

Many militants have been forced to flee the area, attempting to cross into Kashmir, but the swift action by the SOG has thwarted many of these attempts. One militant managed to escape after being injured in a firefight in Gurinalla, and efforts are ongoing to track him down.

In addition to direct counter-terrorism operations, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been working to dismantle terrorist support networks. A recent raid by the NIA in Trigam uncovered key information about Over Ground Workers (OGWs).

Local Village Defense Groups (VDGs), supported by SHO Gundo Parvez Ahmed Khandey, have also received specialized training, improving their ability to help maintain security in the area (TDD)
