Srinagar, TDD,In a major success for security forces, Farooq Nali, a senior Hizbul Mujahideen commander and one of the longest-surviving militants in Jammu and Kashmir, was killed in a fierce gunbattle with police and security forces in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, police sources confirmed today.

Nali, who had been active in South Kashmir for several years, was involved in numerous terror attacks, targeting both civilians and security personnel, which made him one of the region’s most wanted militants. Security forces had long been tracking him due to his involvement in multiple high-profile attacks.

The encounter, which lasted several hours, resulted in the deaths of Nali and four other militants. The operation is seen as a significant blow to Hizbul Mujahideen, a major militant group in the region. Authorities are currently working to confirm the identities of the four other slain militants and that a substantial amount of arms and ammunition was recovered from the site.

During the gunfight, two army soldiers sustained injuries. Nali’s death is viewed as a major achievement for security forces in their ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in Kashmir. (TDD)
