Poonch, TDD: The District Police Poonch, under the guidance of senior officers, conducted a comprehensive inspection drive across SIM card vendor outlets in subdivision Poonch, Surankote, Mendhar, and Gursai. This initiative was aimed at ensuring compliance with mandatory Know Your Customer (KYC) guidelines and preventing the misuse of SIM cards for anti-national and other unlawful activities.
During the drive, police teams visited multiple vendors, inspected their documentation processes, and verified adherence to KYC norms prescribed by the Department of Telecommunications. Vendors were instructed to ensure that SIM cards are issued only after thorough verification of customer identity and address.
On-the-spot guidance was provided to vendors about the correct procedures for collecting and verifying documents such as Aadhaar cards, voter IDs, and other valid proofs of identity. They were also reminded of the importance of maintaining accurate records and reporting any suspicious activities or irregularities to the authorities.
The senior Superintendent of Police Poonch Sh Shafket Hussain SSP JKPS emphasized that negligence or non-compliance with KYC guidelines could lead to strict action, including legal proceedings. Vendors were urged to cooperate fully to ensure the safety and security of the region.
This drive reflects the District Police’s commitment to strengthening law enforcement mechanisms and preventing the misuse of telecommunications for illegal purposes. Similar inspection drives will continue in the future to ensure strict compliance across the district.
