Historic Milestone: Dr. Jitendra Singh calls new Railway Project in Kashmir a game-changer for regional development

Jammu, (TDD): Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology, Earth Sciences, and MoS PMO, Dr. Jitendra Singh, today hailed the inauguration of a new chapter in Indian Railways in the Jammu division as a “historic milestone” that will serve as a game-changer for Kashmir’s connectivity and development. Speaking at an event in Jammu, he emphasized the transformative potential of the project for the region’s rural heartlands, tourism, and overall economic growth.

Dr. Singh reflected on the region’s long wait for robust railway infrastructure, pointing out that the first train arrived in Jammu in 1972—more than five decades ago. He noted that the prolonged gap in achieving rail connectivity with Kashmir raised critical questions about past inefficiencies. “Was the delay caused by administrative hurdles, lack of political will, or opposition from vested interests to fully integrate Kashmir with the rest of the country?” he asked.

Crediting the success of the project to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Dr. Singh remarked, “It took the vision and determination of PM Modi to make what was once deemed impossible a reality. This milestone represents not just a feat of engineering but a testament to the commitment of this government to regional development and national integration.”

The minister also recalled key milestones in the railway project, including a pivotal event held at Katra Railway Station in 2014 during PM Modi’s tenure, which set the stage for revitalizing stalled efforts. He acknowledged the technical and logistical challenges faced along the way but highlighted how consistent focus and efficient governance under the current administration led to the project’s successful completion.

Dr. Singh expressed optimism about the transformative impact the railway will have on the people of Kashmir, particularly in rural areas. He emphasized that improved connectivity will open new avenues for local businesses, tourism, and job creation, strengthening the region’s economic foundation. “This is not just a historic day for Kashmir but for the entire country. The integration of this region into the broader railway network will bring unprecedented opportunities for growth and development,” he stated.

The minister concluded by urging the people of Jammu and Kashmir to take full advantage of the new infrastructure, adding that it symbolizes a new dawn of progress and prosperity for the region. (TDD)
