Srinagar: (TDD)The ongoing cold wave has tightened its grip on Jammu and Kashmir, with temperatures plummeting across the region.

Drass in Ladakh recorded the lowest temperature at a bone-chilling -24.9°C, maintaining its reputation as one of the coldest inhabited places in the world.

In the Kashmir Valley, Larnoo emerged as the coldest location, with the mercury dropping to -11.3°C, followed closely by Pahalgam at -10.0°C and Shopian at -9.3°C. Popular tourist destinations like Gulmarg and Sonamarg also recorded sub-zero temperatures at -8.1°C and -7.6°C, respectively, adding to the wintry charm but posing challenges for residents.

The Jammu region, though relatively warmer, experienced a significant drop in temperatures. Jammu city recorded 4.9°C, while areas like Bhaderwah touched 0.0°C, and Padder in Kishtwar plunged to -5.0°C.

The cold weather is expected to intensify further in the coming days, impacting daily life and raising concerns over heating arrangements and road connectivity in snowbound areas.(TDD)
