Srinagar,(DD): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed enthusiasm ahead of his visit to Jammu and Kashmir on January 13 to inaugurate the Z-Morh Tunnel in Sonamarg, Ganderbal district.
Sharing his excitement on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi said, “I am eagerly awaiting my visit to Sonamarg for the tunnel inauguration. The project will benefit tourism and the local economy immensely. Loved the aerial pictures and videos!”
Ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited Sonamarg to oversee final preparations for the event. He emphasized the tunnel’s potential to revolutionize the region’s connectivity and tourism.
“The Z-Morh Tunnel will keep Sonamarg accessible year-round, opening it to tourists in all seasons. The area is set to become a premier ski destination. Local residents will no longer need to migrate during winters, and travel time to Kargil and Leh will also be significantly reduced,” Omar stated.
The 6.5-kilometer Z-Morh Tunnel, an engineering marvel, ensures all-weather connectivity to the picturesque Sonamarg valley, which was previously cut off during harsh winters. The tunnel is expected to boost tourism, create jobs, and strengthen the region’s economy.
As anticipation builds for the January 13 inauguration, the project is being hailed as a milestone in Jammu and Kashmir’s developmental journey.(DD)
