Kishtwar, DD, In a significant development, Advocate Syed Arif Hussain has tendered his resignation from the post of General Secretary, Bar Association Kishtwar, citing ethical and professional concerns.
In his resignation letter addressed to the President of the Bar Association, Advocate Hussain stated that his decision was driven by the “unilateral and non-consultative” approach adopted by the Association concerning the recently held judicial conference in Srinagar. He expressed dismay over the lack of consultation, particularly with him as the elected General Secretary, regarding participation in the event.
He further criticized the “blatant disregard” for senior and experienced members of the Bar, many of whom have over two decades of legal practice and were, in his view, more suitable for the central theme of the conference on mediation and dispute resolution. Hussain condemned the exclusion of such members without clear criteria, calling it an act that undermines the spirit of the Association and its democratic values.
Calling the actions “arbitrary” and damaging to the credibility of the Bar, he noted that he could not lend legitimacy to a process that overlooks merit, experience, and transparency.
“I find it ethically and professionally untenable to continue in office,” he wrote, thanking the Bar members for their support during his tenure.
His resignation has sparked discussions within the legal fraternity in Kishtwar about transparency and inclusivity in Bar Association proceedings.DD
