After Tragedy, Rajouri Admin Bans Swimming and Picnics Near Water Bodies

Diplomat Correspondent

Rajouri,(DD) Following the tragic death of two children in a flash flood in Kalakote’s Sialsui area, the Rajouri district administration has imposed a complete ban on swimming, bathing, fishing, and loitering near water bodies, including rivers, streams, nallahs, and waterfalls.

The restrictions apply across the entire district, including during school picnics and recreational outings.

An official order issued Thursday stated that the ban was a precautionary step to prevent loss of life during the ongoing rainy season, which has heightened the risk of flash floods and sudden water surges.

“The safety of our citizens, especially children, is our top priority. The recent incident in Kalakote is a tragic reminder of how dangerous water bodies can become during monsoon. No leniency will be shown in enforcing the ban,” said a senior district official.

The administration has urged the public to strictly follow the guidelines and cooperate with authorities. Violators may face legal action under disaster management and safety regulations.

Rescue teams and police have also been directed to maintain increased surveillance near vulnerable zones and tourist spots, while schools have been advised to avoid scheduling outdoor trips near water bodies until further notice.

The order comes after three children were swept away in a flash flood in Sialsui, resulting in two fatalities. The third child was rescued by locals and is currently recovering(DD)
