Kargil,DD, As part of the week-long Sampoornata Abhiyan Samman Samaroh, the Akanksha Haat programme was officially inaugurated in Kargil by the Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Er. Punchok Tashi.
The event began with a visit to stalls displayed by women-led Self Help Groups (SHGs) from different blocks of the district.
These stalls presented a variety of locally made products, reflecting the rich culture, traditional skills, and entrepreneurship of the region.
During the event, Chief Planning Officer (CPO) Kargil, Abdul Hadi, gave a detailed briefing about the purpose and objectives of the programme.
He mentioned that Akanksha Haat aims to give a proper platform to SHG women to promote their skills, display their handmade goods, and create market opportunities for their products.
The initiative is a step toward making women self-reliant and boosting the local economy through community-driven efforts.
A total of 12 stalls were set up at the venue, with five representing the Karsha block and the remaining seven from other blocks.
The stalls showcased a variety of indigenous and health-based items such as Black Zeera from Kaksar, known for its medicinal benefits, and Markhur, a traditional handmade food item appreciated for its nutritional value and unique taste.
The display also included winter-friendly woollen clothes like Gonchas, Waskats, and woollen caps, all handmade by the SHG women.
The popular Ladakhi traditional noodle dish Skyu also attracted attention from visitors for its cultural value and local flavor.
In his address, EC Punchok Tashi expressed deep appreciation for the efforts of the SHG women, who he said are not only preserving Ladakh’s heritage through their crafts but are also becoming pillars of financial strength for their families.
He encouraged the local community to recognize the importance of these groups and support them by purchasing and promoting their products.
He also emphasized that such programmes not only benefit individuals but contribute to the overall growth of the district’s economy.
Reassuring continuous support, EC Tashi stated, LAHDC Kargil is fully committed to helping our Self Help Groups by connecting them with government schemes and financial aid. We will continue to stand with them at every step.DD
