ADGP, DIG Jammu visit spot, constitute SIT to investigate firing incident

JAMMU: DD,One person on Tuesday was shot dead here at the busy Jewel Chowk area of Jammu District allegedly by the members of rival gang members.

The deceased has been identified as Sumit Jandyal (37), son of Om Parkash, resident of ward number 9, Vijaypur.
Sources said that the incident happened at the Jewel Chowk, when unidentified gang members opened several rounds of fire at a red colour Thar bearing registration number JK21-G-0770 at the Jewel Chowk area.

Before the police could have come into action, the accused fled from the spot, and the victim, Sumit Jandyal, sustained critical bullet injuries.
“The injured was rushed to the GMC Jammu Hospital where he was pronounced as brought dead,” said the police sources, while adding that the police have launched a major hunt in Jammu, and Samba to nab the absconding criminals.

The Thar has been seized by the police, and further investigation has been initiated with the registration of FIR at the concerned police station.
Meanwhile, the ADGP Jammu Zone, Anand Jain also reached the spot. He was accompanied by the DIG Shiv Kumar Sharma, SSP Jammu, and other senior police officers.
While speaking to media, the ADGP Jammu said that it was an inter-gang rivalry and ruled out the possibility of a terror angle.
Sumit Jandyal was fired upon (in which he has lost his life). Gataru Gang of Vijaypur-Samba rival gang was fired upon by their opponents, he stated.
He also informed that the police have started investigation with the constitution of the Special Investigation Team (SIT).DD
