Amarnath Yatra Langar Committee Members’ Vehicle Falls Into Gorge, Two Dead, Three Seriously Injured

Kathua:DD, A tragic road accident occurred late Saturday night on the Lakhanpur-Basantpur road, where a car lost control and plunged into a deep gorge.

In the mishap, two members of a langar committee of Amarnath ji Yatra lost their lives, while three others sustained serious injuries.

The injured were evacuated to GMC Kathua.

According to available information, the victims were members of the Neelkanth Seva Samiti from Firozpur, Punjab.

They were traveling in a car (registration number PB10K B5888) en-route to the langar service organized at Chanderkot for the Amarnath Yatra pilgrims. While navigating through Lakhanpur on the National Highway, the car mistakenly turned towards the Basantpur road, where it lost control of a hilly stretch and fell into a deep gorge.

Upon receiving information about the accident, teams from Lakhanpur Police Station and Basantpur Police Post rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.

After several hours of effort, all the injured were pulled out and taken to GMC Kathua, where doctors declared two of them dead. The remaining three are undergoing treatment.

Casuality Medical Officer (CMO), GMC Kathua, Dr. Poonam Sharma confirmed that two people had died in the accident and treatment of the other three is ongoing.

Meanwhile, Lakhanpur Police have initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident and appropriate legal action is being taken.DD
