Srinagar, (DD): The Amarnath Yatra was suspended on Wednesday from both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes due to continuous heavy rainfall, officials said.
According to the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, no pilgrim movement was allowed from the base camps at Baltal and Nunwan/Chandanwari as a precautionary measure. “Heavy rains since early morning have made the tracks unsafe for travel,” he said.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, added that due to bad weather conditions in the Yatra area, the movement of pilgrims from base camps has been affected. “Consequently, no convoy will be allowed to proceed from Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu towards Baltal and Nunwan on July 31. Pilgrims will be kept informed about further developments,” he said.
So far, over 3.93 lakh devotees have paid obeisance at the holy Amarnath Cave Shrine since the Yatra began on July 3(DD)
