Amit Sharma Motivates J&K, Ladakh Census Officers at Houselisting Training for Census 2027

Jammu: Amit Sharma, IAS, Director of Census Operations (DCO) and Director of Citizen Registration (DCR), Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, for the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh inaugurated a crucial three-day training programme in Jammu for officers of the Directorate of Census Operations.

The programme aims to impart detailed training on the upcoming Census 2027, particularly the first phase—House Listing and Housing Census. The training is being conducted by two National Trainers, currently serving as Joint Director and Deputy Director in the Directorate.

Amit Sharma was welcomed by Joint Director Arun Kumar and Deputy Director Manmeet Singh Loomba in the presence of senior officers of the Directorate, who expressed their gratitude for the positive and visible initiatives undertaken since his joining in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, especially at a critical juncture ahead of Census 2027.

During his inaugural address, Amit Sharma highlighted several unique features of the upcoming Census 2027 and outlined the first phase of the Houselisting and Housing Census to be conducted across Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. He informed that nodal officers, designated as “Census Prabharis” for each district, would be selected from among the best trainees. He stressed that their level of understanding must be robust enough to address queries from all quarters at the grassroots level.

Emphasising the importance of the training, Amit Sharma said that the three-day programme should serve as a strong foundation for the successful conduct of Census 2027, which will be the first-ever digital Census since Independence. He described it as a golden opportunity to realise the vision of “Census as a Service” (CaaS).

He encouraged the trainees to put in their best efforts to thoroughly understand all concepts and disseminate them effectively to UT administration officers, charge officers, and field functionaries.

Amit Sharma also advised the trainees to fully utilise the expertise of the National Trainers and to seek clarification on all doubts and queries during the training sessions.DD
