Anil Sharma Demands Justice for Attacked Journalist

Seeks Police Security for Journalist & Immediate Arrest of Accused

Diplomat Correspondent

Kathua, DD :Anil Sharma, President of the All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC), held a press conference today in Kathua, along with his full teams from District Kathua and Samba and several journalists. Sharma strongly condemned the recent attack on Rakesh Sharma, a reporter from Dainik Jagran and a resident of Kathua.

AJKPC President said the attack was shameful and raised serious questions about the role of the police. “The attackers are known. Why have they not been arrested? Are the police delaying action so the culprits can get bail? This delay is not acceptable,” he said.

AJKPC President also hit out at the attackers, calling them cowards.
“You beat up a helpless journalist doing his duty. Where were you when terrorists attacked Kathua? Then you hid like rats, but now you show your strength against one innocent man who is holding pen. This is not bravery, it is shamefulness,” he said.

Sharma demanded that the political party and organisation connected to these attackers must remove them immediately and not protect such elements.

Sharma also demanded police security for journalist Rakesh Sharma, saying, “If anything happens to him, the responsibility will lie fully with the district administration and the district police chief.”

He also asked police to check the criminal background of the attackers and send them behind bars under relevant sections of the law including Public Safety Act.

He warned that if no quick action is taken, he will raise the matter at the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and other national platforms.

“AJKPC will not remain silent. Journalists are the voice of the people and they must be protected,” he said.

The press conference ended with strong support from the media community and a clear demand for justice and safety for all journalists. Senior functionaries and prominent people who were presented during the press conference include AJKPC General Secretary Vijay Tagotra and Charan Jeet Singh Distt President Gurdwara Parbandik Committee Kathua.DD
