Any change to Kashmir’s name requires approval of elected Government: CM Omar

Assures readiness for winter challenges, efforts to minimize power outages

TDD Correspondent

Srinagar, TDD,Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah made it clear today that any change to the region’s name would only be possible with the explicit approval of the elected government.

Speaking to the media outside his Gupkar residence, Omar stressed that such a significant decision must follow constitutional and legal processes. He emphasized that the name of Kashmir cannot be altered unilaterally or under external pressure.

Omar’s statement came in response to reports that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had been misquoted in some media outlets. The Chief Minister clarified that the statements attributed to Shah were inaccurate and needed to be corrected.

On the issue of winter preparedness, Omar assured the public that the administration is well-equipped to tackle the expected challenges of snow and cold weather. “We are fully prepared to manage the vagaries of snow and freezing temperatures,” he said, outlining the measures taken to address the harsh conditions anticipated in the coming days.

In light of ongoing power outages in certain areas, Omar acknowledged the inconvenience caused to residents. However, he assured that steps are being taken to reduce these disruptions. He noted that power supply has improved in recent years and expressed confidence that current efforts to strengthen the infrastructure would further ensure a stable power supply during the winter months.(TDD)
